Our latest review from Cool Classics:
Who has seen Stephen Mitchell's videos on the Ferrari 250 GTO (http://youtu.be/U-5JNxVVkDA and http://youtu.be/Md_jcC6OnIU)
already has a pretty good impression of what to expect from his latest
documentary. It's about another legend in the classic car world: The
Carrera Panamericana. This 'Race of Death', as it was called by some,
was organized to promote the new Panamerican Highway that connected
Central and North America. Stephen has managed to gather a lot of
original footage and--maybe even more interesting--interviewed John
Fitch, who raced for Mercedes. This gives you a great view from the
driver's perspective on this epic road race, while on the other hand the
knowledge of writer Dr. David Scully (who is writing a book about the
Panamericana) explains why it all had to come to an end.
If
you expect to sit down and watch a movie like 'Le Mans' or 'Grand
Prix', you will be disappointed. If you expect to see a great
documentary with expert's views on this incredible road race with
authentic footage as a big bonus: Buy the DVD. I enjoyed it!
The DVD and a very nice poster are for sale at: http://www.interfund.biz/carrerapan/
